Kickstart the Great SOCIO

What would happen if a member from The Doors, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cake and Incubus all got together and decided to form a band? Well… besides my brain exploding, the general result would probably sound something like the Great SOCIO. Based out of Philadelphia, these guys are well on their way to defining a new genre of music they like to call Groove Rock. With just four members, the Great SOCIO commands a well-rounded arsenal of instruments, except a guitar. Surprisingly, it’s not missed! These guys rhythmically wield the trumpet, piano, synth, bass, drums and vocals to create one hell of a Rock and Roll sound.

They’re also on quite an ambitious (but achievable) Kickstarter mission to raise $6,500. All funds will go toward touring and recording costs for their new EP, “Modern Grip”. If you have an extra $5 (or $50,... or $500) in your bank account,  the band is offering some pretty sweet rewards for your efforts, such as a backyard BBQ party and a one-on-one basketball game.

Still need a little more of a push to pull from your piggy bank? Come see what The Great SOCIO is all about TONIGHT at the Legendary Dobbs on 3rd and South St!

Seasick Mama "Quit Your Job"

Seasick Mama just released their new single off of their debut EP "Dead Like Money" that's due out February 19th through No Shame. "Quit Your Job" is the kind of track that you can't help but feel good when you listen to it. Maybe it's because I'm about to graduate college and the concept of being free is stuck in my mind, but I quickly became obsessed with this song off of the first listen. It's catchy and the music feels free like the lyrics. Not to mention the video is amazing. Director Russ Roe did an unbelievable job capturing the feel of the song and selecting the perfect imagery that I was as immediately hooked on the video as I was on the song. I better get back to playing this on repeat so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! And check out Seasick Mama on Facebook and Twitter!

Words From The Wise

I don't have the credentials that Michael Blue Williams has... maybe one day. So, when I say these same, exact things to artists it may not be as potent. Mr. Williams is one of many people in the music industry that I look up to. Bottom line, these are words from the wise. Listen intently.

We Don't Care About Your Feelings :-)

Hey, did you hear?

Voss joined BIMMG last week. Yeah man, we are really stoked. For those that have never heard of Voss, he is a Hip Hop artist based out of Philadelphia, PA. He spits rhymes over ill beats. He's a pretty good rhyme story teller. He's a “veteran in a rookie’s body.” He is a BET 106 and Park Freestyle Friday hall of famer. He likes to bust out in freestyle while at the drive-thru. I just made that last part up about the drive-thru as I thought it would be cool.

On the real though, Voss did tell me he got a free haircut a few weeks back, but before he could leave the barber "made him freestyle." I wonder what would have happened if Voss decided not to freestyle and instead just walked the fuck out. How would you report that to the policia? Eh, no worries he's not that doooshey. He did freestyle for the barber and fulfilled his end of the bargain. He's a good guy.

He's also has shared the stage with such diverse acts as Mac Miller, ?uestlove, Cam’ron, Pusha T, El-P, Talib Kweli, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Action Bronson, Chris Webby, Dom Kennedy, Astronautalis, Wax, Peedi Crakk, Cam'ron and many more. Look, dude isn't just a battle rapper. Voss also writes and creates good music, and is currently in the studio recording his next LP.

Again, we at the BIMMG and Monster Ent. family are excited to have him on board. Lots of great things planned over the next year. More information on those great things to come. For now, check out this video of Voss's guest appearance on South NJ, Hip Hop artist Skrewtape's song. Skrewtape also makes damn good music, adding to a flourishing scene of up and coming artists spread out across the DE Valley. I love this video. I love the way it's shot. I love the locations. I love the big ass boombox. It's just a great song... hopefully you feel me. If not, Fuck Your Feelings you betch ass Ni&&@!
